Poor Water Quality Closes Two Metro Area Beaches

(August 15/2001) - Please be advised that the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment has ordered two local area beaches closed to swimmers due to high bacteria levels.

The beaches are:

Big Albro - Dartmouth

Penhorn - Dartmouth

The Department of the Environment does water quality testing for the Halifax Regional Municipality and has ordered the closure of other HRM supervised beaches from time to time this summer because of high bacteria counts.

(Eds Note: Media inquiries regarding testing methods and water quality should be directed to the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment.)
