(Monday, November 26/2001)-- Eleven students from grade five and six classes at Holland Road Elementary School have been chosen to conduct an energy audit of Halifax Regional Municipality's City Hall this Thursday (November 29th).
The students are divided into four teams and will carry out energy, waste and water audits of the City Hall. Deputy Mayor Robert Harvey, other members of Council and HRM staff will assist and participate. Municipal employees will also be interviewed about conservation practices.
In preparation for the audit, the teams have been given "Destination Conservation" technical training. The students will conduct their audit following a pre-planned route at the City Hall. Following the audit, they will prepare their report and present their findings to Deputy Mayor Harvey. He, in turn, will respond to the report and make note of any energy conservation initiatives that are in place or planned by the city.
10:00 a.m. - Students, arrive with teacher, principal and parents, and meet in Halifax Hall
10:15 a.m. - Media Briefing in Halifax Hall.
10: 30 a.m. - noon - Energy audits take place. Four groups of students will be lead by two audit coordinators and two HRM staff members.
12:00 - 12:30 p.m. - Lunch
12:30 - 1:30 p.m. - Students prepare report.
1: 30 - 2:00 p.m. - Presentation of energy audit report to Deputy Mayor Harvey
