Regional Council's District Tours Rated as Hugh Success
(Wednesday, November 28/2001)-- Mayor Peter Kelly and Members of Halifax Regional Council concluded the last in a series of District tours throughout the municipality today.
The tour today was of the Central Region, which includes Districts 6,7,8,9 10,11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. Each Councillor provides a commentary on the sights, events and concerns/issues regarding their District to their colleagues as the tour bus winds its way through each constituency.
They toured the Western Region on November 1, which included Districts 16,17,18, 21,22 ands 23; and the Eastern Region on November 7, which included Districts 1,2,3,4,5,19 and 20. HRM senior management also participated in the three tours.
Mayor Kelly said the tours were a huge success and enabled Councillors to appreciate the diversity of the various Districts throughout HRM and the wide variety of issues and concerns that relate to each community.
"The tours gave the Councillors and I a better understanding of a number of issues related to various Districts. Once you've seen an area and had certain problems pointed out to you on a tour, you're better able to relate to the District and its residents when issues affecting it come before Council, " he said.
The Mayor said the three tours also allowed Council members to meet with local residents and discuss issues and concerns with them directly.
