Dartmouth Rotarians Looking to Support Community Project
(Thursday, March 28/2002)-- The Rotary Club of Dartmouth is already making plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2003 and its members are looking to participate in a community project to mark the occasion.
Councillor Condo Sarto (District 7-Woodlawn) commended the Dartmouth Rotarians for their valuable work as a service club in the community and promised to take the Club's request for a worthwhile project to a meeting of the Harbour East Community Council.
Councillor Sarto said he and his colleagues on Community Council (Councillors Bruce Hetherington, Jim Smith and John Cunningham) will likely ask staff to develop a list of potential projects with a community-wide interest that the Rotary Club of Dartmouth may be interested in supporting.
The Rotary Club of Dartmouth has supported many community projects in the past, such as the Dartmouth Boys and Girls Club, erection of the bandstand at Sullivan's Pond and assistance with the Palliative Care Unit at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
Councillor Sarto said "The Club and its members have made a tremendous contribution to the Dartmouth community during the past 50 years. Even at a time when we, as a community, should be congratulating and applauding the Rotary Club on the eve of its Golden Anniversary, Rotarians are asking what they can do to help us with another community project. They certainly epitomize the words "community-minded."
