(Monday, April 29/2002)-- Grade three students from St. Patrick's/Alexandra School and Joseph Howe School will be on hand Wednesday to help Mayor Peter Kelly and Halifax Regional Council officially kick-off the municipality's annual Spring Community Clean-up Campaign.

The event will take place May 1st at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of St. Patrick's / Alexandra School , 2277 Maitland Street, Halifax. (The site can be accessed off Brunswick Street).

Mayor Kelly, Councillors, the students and others will spend two hours picking up litter in the neighborhood. The Tim's Horton's Community Cruiser will be on site to provide refreshments.

Last year, more than 30 groups, representing more than 1,500 individuals, participated in HRM's annual clean-up campaign in various areas throughout the municipality. The community clean-up efforts were not confined to the urban areas alone. There was widespread interest in this program throughout the region, which demonstrated the tremendous pride that our citizens have in their community.

Once again this year, citizens or groups wanting to participate in the clean-up campaign will be able to register on-line at the HRM website ( www.halifax.ca).

Clean-up kits and supplies will be available to participants at HRM Customer Service Centers.

Those wanting to register by telephone or who may require additional information about the two-month campaign (months of May and June) should contact the HRM Corporate Call Center at 490-4000.
