Arborists To Take Down, Prune Hazardous Trees

(Tuesday, April 30/2002)-- The chainsaws will be buzzing this weekend at the Scout Summer Camp on Miller Island, near the Fall River exit on Highway #102 to the Halifax International Airport.

Members of the Atlantic Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture are holding a special "work day" this Saturday (May 4th) to take down, or prune, dangerous or hazardous trees on the island. The effort is being organized in conjunction with various Arbor Day and National Forest Week activities this Spring.

The work day is being made possible with the help and support of the following:

Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM); Nova Scotia Power Inc (NSP).; Asplundh Tree Service; Atlantic Arborist; Lucas Tree Services; the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and Vermeer Atlantic.

Works crews will be gathering at the dock to take the motor launch across to Miller Island at 7:30 a.m. The dock is located at the end of Boy Scout Camp Road, which is the first left off Guysborough Road when exiting from Highway #118 on Exit #14.

Members of the media are asked to be at the dock by 7:15 a.m. that morning.
