(Tuesday, May 13/2002)-- Approximately 50 students from Sandy Lake Academy in Bedford will participate in the release of 3,000 trout in the north end of Sandy Lake on Wednesday (May 15th.).

The release has been arranged with the Inland Division of Agriculture and Fisheries Canada to satisfy a portion of the judgement levied against HRM as a result of the sewer spill in Sandy Lake in the summer of 2000.

Each student will be given a trout in a plastic bag for release into the lake after he or she has named it. Then, the remainder of the fish will be released.

Students from Primary to Grade 12 at Sandy Lake Academy were given a presentation last week regarding the fish release, and discussed a number of other environmental issues as well, such as the life cycle of fish, interdependence of living things, etc.

When: Wednesday, May 15, 2002

Time: 1 p.m.

Where: Sandy Lake, off the Hammonds Plains Road (follow the road at the north end of Farmer's Dairy property).
