City Hall to Remain Open until 3 p.m. on Friday

(Thursday, June 13/2002)-- It was incorrectly reported by some media outlets this morning that City Hall will be closed to the public as of 06:00 a.m. Friday morning to accommodate a meeting of the G-7 Finance Ministers in Halifax this weekend.

In fact, City Hall offices will be open to the public until 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. There is no change in business hours for HRM's Duke Street Tower offices in Scotia Square. Those offices will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The G-7 meetings will be held at the World Trade and Convention Centre and there will be some temporary street closures as a result.

Argyle Street, between Duke Street and Carmichael Street (formerly the upper portion of George Street) will be closed to traffic, as of Friday morning at 0600.

Carmichael Street, between Grafton Street and Argyle Street will be closed at that time as well.

The south half of Duke Street, from Market Street to Barrington Street, and the south side sidewalk (adjacent of the Trade Centre) will be closed.

All vehicular traffic will be west bound only on Duke Street, between Barrington Street and Market Street, as of Friday morning at 0600 hours.

Pedestrians entering or leaving Scotia Square must use the north side sidewalk.

Any vehicle entering the Scotia Square parkade at any of the three entrances will be stopped for a 30-second security search as, of Friday morning at 0500 hours.
