(Tuesday, July 9/2002)-- Briefing material outlining efforts to increase public safety and provide basic access to additional municipal services in rural communities was tabled at a Committee-of-the-Whole meeting of Halifax Regional Council this afternoon.
Included in the package was draft service standards for fire services and for the cost sharing of recreational facilities. Pending the completion of consultations with rural fire departments, these standards are to be presented in a report to Committee of the Whole on July 16th. Also included in the package was preliminary information on the financial impact of the tax changes. Residents are encouraged to treat this information as preliminary.
It must be stressed that any impacts under this discussion are to follow the comprehensive public consultation process that is to begin in September.
