(Thursday, August 15/2002)--Visitors to Halifax Regional Municipality's supervised beaches are urged to exercise extra caution due to the dramatic increase in number of beach-goers seeking relief from the unseasonably hot summer temperatures this week.
HRM's Beach Office reports there has been an average three-fold increase in the number of visitors to the municipality's 24 supervised beaches throughout the region in recent days.
Parents of young children, in particular, are urged to keep a watchful eye on them when they are near, or in, the water.
In addition, children's summer day camps are asked to advise the HRM Beach Office in advance of the beach they intend to visit; the number of children involved; and the approximate time they will be arriving. This will assist the Beach Office staff in deploying additional staff to the most crowded beaches.
The Beach Line number is 490-5458.
HRM thanks the public for their cooperation.
