PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

OVERNIGHT WINTER PARKING REGULATIONS

(Wednesday, October 30/2002)--In order to enable HRM work crews to plow and salt streets more efficiently and safely, it is the intention of the Traffic Authority to enact regulations prohibiting the overnight parking of vehicles from 1:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on any streets within the Urban Core Area of the Halifax Regional Municipality during the coming winter months.

While the overnight winter parking ban will not be implemented prior to December 1st, the starting and ending dates of the ban will be determined by prevailing weather conditions and will be widely communicated through the media well in advance of implementation.

Residents are reminded that Section 139 of the Motor Vehicle Act provides that parked vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations may be removed at the owner's cost regardless of time or date.
