HRM Urges Residents to Prepare Against Flooding

(Wednesday, November 13/2002)-- Heavy rainfall is forecast for this evening and overnight, so Halifax Regional Municipality crews have been busy today trying to clear sewer catch pits of leaves and other debris to prevent flooding.

Because of the magnitude of the task, HRM residents are urged to ensure that catch pits in front of their property are clear of any leaves and other materials to avoid flooding due to the heavy rainfall.

Also, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when driving on streets or roads that are covered with leaves. Wet weather make the leaves very slippery and motorists are advised to drive slowly and carefully under such conditions.

HRM Technical and Underground Service crews will be on the job tonight and overnight to respond to any reports of street or neighbourhood flooding.

HRM extends its thanks to residents for their cooperation and assistance.
