HRM's Newest Municipal Building Home Base to More than 300
(Wednesday, February 12/2003)-- Approximately 300 federal, provincial and municipal employees are now working out of the Eric Spicer Municipal Building in Woodside.
The Halifax Regional Municipality's newly renovated office facility on Mount Hope Avenue now hosts close to a dozen business units in its 77,750 square feet of space.
Councillor Bruce Hetherington (District 8-Woodside) said the recent transformation of the Spicer Building is one the municipality's great "good news" stories.
Councillor Hetherington said "At the time of amalgamation, the building housed the former Dartmouth City Police and a few other offices. Now, the building is reaching its full potential and its certainly adding to the economic activity in the Woodside area."
Among the business units/tenants located in the building are:
Civic Addressing
GIS (Geographic Information Systems)
Corporate Call Centre
Design Services
Environment and Right-of-Way Services
Parks and Open Spaces
Solid Waste Resources
Surveying
Traffic and Transportation Services
Halifax Regional Police
Emergency Measures(HRM, Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia)
The total number of employees with offices in the Spicer Municipal Building ( including the Provincial and Federal EMO) is 180. In addition, there are 90 Halifax Regional Police officers and approximately 30 parks staff who work out of the building.
Councillor Hetherington said the building is named after Constable Eric Spicer, the only member of the former Dartmouth City Police Department ever shot and killed on duty.
