Snow Clearing Operations in Downtown Core Tonight

(Monday, February 17/2003)-- In light of the winter storm forecast for Tuesday (February 18th), motorists are advised that snow and ice clearing and removal operations will be taking place in the downtown Halifax business district tonight. As a result, they are advised to find off-street parking for their vehicle.

Snow and ice crews will be working in the area bounded by Duke Street to Spring Garden Road and from Brunswick Street down to the waterfront.

Public Works and Transportation employees will be using heavy equipment (tandem dump trucks and trucks equipped with snow blowers). Clearing and removal operations will be beginning about 10 p.m.

Halifax Regional Police have been notified about the operations. Motorists are reminded that Section 139 of the provincial Motor Vehicle Act states that parked vehicles obstructing snow removal or winter maintenance operations may be removed at the owner's cost--- regardless of time or date.

HRM urges motorists to co-operate and thanks them for their assistance.
