HRM/CBRM Wager Would Benefit Food Bank
(Thursday, March 20/2003)-- Mayor Peter Kelly today challenged Mayor John Morgan of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality to a friendly wager on the outcome of the Halifax Mooseheads-Cape Breton Screaming Eagles series.
"I feel so confident the Halifax Mooseheads will be victorious that I offer the following challenge to Mayor Morgan: with the Mooseheads victory, I want Mayor Morgan to join me to spend a Saturday in HRM and, while wearing the attractive green and red Mooseheads jersey, help me publicly solicit donations for the Metro Food Bank at locations to be determined at a later date."
Also as part of the wager, the Mayor of the losing team will raise the flag of the other municipality in front of the respective City Hall, and will have to solicit donations from community sponsors to host a reception for the respective Regional Council, the winning team and its organization.
"The Mooseheads-Screaming Eagles series will undoubtedly be an exciting one, and I know firsthand that a wager can add to the excitement,"said Mayor Kelly, who traveled to the CBRM to work in a local restaurant as the result of last year's challenge. "As beautiful as the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is, I would prefer for Mayor Morgan to do the travelling this year."
The Halifax Mooseheads-Cape Breton Screaming Eagles series begins this Friday, March 21st, at the Halifax Metro Centre.
Mayor Kelly added that he hoped he and Mayor Morgan would each have an opportunity to attend a game in the opposing side's arena to help promote the wager, as well as support their respective teams.
