Heavy Flooding Reported Throughout HRM

(Monday, March 31/2003)-- Motorists are urged to slow down and use extreme caution when driving in view of the widespread flooding conditions on streets and roads throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Technical and Underground Service (TUGS) crews have been on the job since midnight, trying to cope with the situation. However, the greater-than-normal amount of rainfall forecast, coupled with the run-off from the spring snow melting, is over-taxing the municipal system and many natural brooks and streams are flooding their banks.

"Flood Warning" signs have been posted at many locations on streets and roads throughout the municipality, but there are not enough signs and human resources to mark every flood location. Therefore, motorists are urged to slow down and drive with extra caution until the waters subside.
