Public Works Event to be Celebrated on Friday
(Wednesday, May 21/2003) - In light of funeral services for the late David McKinnon, Chief of Halifax Regional Police Services, tomorrow at St. Mary's Basilica, the Public Works Week event originally scheduled for Grand Parade on Thursday has been re-scheduled for the following day- Friday, May 23rd.
Please also note that the 2nd annual "Velvet Glove " backhoe competition has been re-scheduled for that same day, beginning at noon. Mayor Peter Kelly is scheduled to take on Deputy CAO Dan English this year, and media representatives will also be competing.
Millions of dollars worth of municipal service equipment will be on display in Grand Parade, as part of Halifax Regional Municipality's celebration of National Public Works Week. In addition, there will be a number of static displays available for viewing by the public.
Public Works and Transportation Services representatives will be on hand to demonstrate the equipment (i.e. street sweepers, sewer pumpers, backhoes, dump and plow trucks, etc.) and to explain how the many municipal services are delivered to the public.
Crews will begin moving the heavy equipment and displays into place early Friday morning and the public is invited to drop by and visit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Children, accompanied by parents, and school groups are welcome.
