Rick Hansen in HRM to Launch New Awareness Campaign
(Wednesday, May 21/2003)-- Mayor Peter Kelly and members of Halifax Regional Council will officially welcome Canada's "Man in Motion" Rick Hansen to HRM during a brief ceremony at City Hall on Friday.
Rick Hansen is on a cross-country tour to promote the launch of his Foundation's new annual awareness and fund-raising campaign, entitled "Wheels in Motion."
Canadians will be asked to walk, run, bike, wheel or skate on June 14th to help raise funds for spinal cord research and to help improve the quality of life for those with spinal cord injuries.
Fifty per cent of the net proceeds raised will remain in the participating communities and the remaining 50 per cent will support spinal cord injury research, ultimately leading to a cure.
From 1985-1987, Rick Hansen ignited the passion and interest of the world as he wheeled the circumference of the Earth in his wheelchair to raise awareness and funds for spinal cord injury during the record-setting odyssey-- "Man in Motion World Tour."
Today, Rick Hansen is President and CEO of the Rick Hansen Man in Motion Foundation, created to accelerate improvements to the quality of life for people with spinal cord injury.
When: Friday, May 23, 2003
Time: 3 p.m.
