Full Schedule of Events to Highlight HRM Bike Week

(Thursday, May 29/2003)-- A series of events are planned to celebrate bicycling in Halifax Regional Municipality during the 4th annual HRM Bike Week this year, from June 1 to 7.

Councillor Sheila Fougere, Chair of the HRM Bikeways Task Force, said events this year include a bicycle parade on Sunday (June 1); a free pancake breakfast for cyclists on Monday morning; a bike film night; an introduction to bicycle repair; and several social bike rides. At all events, cyclist safety education messages will be promoted to the public.

The week will be rounded out with the traditional Friday "Lunchtime Ride" to City Hall on June 6. Refreshments will be available and there will be a draw for prizes.

On Saturday, June 7th, there is a group bike ride and barbeque on the Beechville-Lakeside-Timberlea Trail to celebrate International Trails Day.

During HRM Bike Week, cyclists can travel on the Halifax Harbour ferries for free, courtesy of Metro Transit.

The complete schedule of HRM Bike Week is available on the HRM website at:http://www.halifax.ca/cycling/

Sponsors of HRM Bike Week 2003 include: Halifax Regional Municipality, Ecology Action Centre, Bikes By Dave, Cyclesmith, Marble Arch Bakery, Dio Mio Gelato, Paradise Cinemas, Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission, Metro Transit, and the Corey Mock Memorial Fund.
