Parking Enforcement Patrols at Local Beaches This Weekend
(Friday, July 4/2003)-- Motorists are reminded that parking enforcement patrols will be out this weekend at major beaches within the Halifax Regional Municipality, particularly at Queensland Beach, near Hubbards.
Halifax Regional Police, HRM Parking Enforcement and the Halifax Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) urge all beach-goers this summer to park only in designated parking areas.
There has been an increase recently in the number of illegally parked vehicles along roadways at Lawrencetown Beach, Martinique Beach, Rainbow Haven Beach, and Queensland Beach. "No Parking" signs are in place and motorists are asked to not park illegally.
The primary concern is safety, for both pedestrians and motorists. Illegal parking may also block emergency vehicles while en route to an emergency call at the beach or elsewhere.
Motorists are advised that illegal parkers will be ticketed. Section 143 (1) of the Motor Vehicle Act states "It is an offence for the driver of a vehicle to stop, stand or park the vehicle....at any place where official traffic signs have been erected prohibiting standing and parking."
