Candidates Advised About Campaign Signs
(Tuesday, July 8/2003)-- Halifax Regional Municipality reminds candidates in the current provincial General Election that campaign signs must be restricted to private property (with the permission of the property owner) and should not be installed within the street right-of-way.
Also, campaign signs must not obstruct the view of traffic at intersections and driveways, and must not be installed on utility poles or street trees.
Adherence to these guidelines should preclude any problems; however, the municipality advises that any signs posing a safety hazard will be removed by HRM at the cost of the candidate.
Enforcement will be based on HRM awareness (usually by way of complaint) that a sign may be causing a safety concern.
