PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Encouraging Residents to Purchase Battery Operated Smoke Detectors (Thursday, October 2, 2003) - Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency is encouraging all residents without power who have wired-in smoke detectors to purchase a battery operated smoke detector. Battery operated smoke detectors can be purchased for a nominal fee of $10.00 at various hardware and department stores.

The Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency requires a minimum of at least one working smoke alarm outside each sleeping area.

The Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency has an "Alarmed and Ready Program" that supplies smoke alarms to residents who do not have at least one working smoke alarm, However, we may not be equipped to handle the magnitude of requests at this time, but will maintain this program as long as our supplies last. Please contact 490-5590 or 490-5546 for information on this program.
