Hurricane Juan - Recovery Update - Bundled Branch Collection Increase - Amendment
(Wednesday, October 8, 2003 12:15 p.m.) - In a continued effort to assist HRM residents in the removal of fallen branches,HRM Solid Waste Resources has increased the number of bundles of tied branches residents may place curbside from 5 to 10 bundles.
Please ensure each armload size bundle weighs no more than 34kg(75lb) and no individual piece in the bundle is more than 4ft(1.2m) long or larger than 8inches(0.2m) in diameter. Please place bundles curbside for collection on your regular organics green cart collection day for the weeks of Oct 13th and Oct 20th.
Please try to ensure piles do not obstruct sidewalks, catch basins or fire hydrants. Debris piled on sidewalks hampers the efficiency of repair crews. Brush covering fire hydrants can hamper fire rescue crews in the event of an emergency.
Please note, this bundle increase limit is a service enhancement to HRM's regular solid waste pickup. Residents can still place Fallen Trees, Storm debris curbside for collection. HRM Works crews will continue to clear brush and debris from curbsides until Friday, October 10th, when it is anticipated the majority of sidewalks, as well as streets, should be restored to passable condition. A final debris sweep will be made on October 14th and October 15th.
Again, residents are urged to continue piling their brush by the side of the road or at the edge of their property, but not obstructing the sidewalk, catch basins or fire hydrants if possible. Brush piled on sidewalks hampers the efficiency of the crews now out trying to repair them.
We regret public drop-off of debris cannot be accepted at the temporary sites set up to process debris being collected by HRM Works Crews.
In cooperation with HRM, the N.S. Department of Transportation will initiate a similar debris collection program in the rural areas beginning Tuesday, October 14, 2003.
