(Wednesday, October 8, 2003 10:00 a.m. )- A cheque presentation was made today by CIBC to Halifax Regional Municipality in the amount of $20,000 . Mayor Peter Kelly accepted the cheque on behalf of HRM from CIBC Executive Vice President, Branch and Small Business Banking Mr. Kenn Lalonde and Mr. Terry Gardiner, Vice President, Branch and Small Business Banking, Atlantic Region in a ceremony in the Mayor's Office. The money donated by CIBC is to be used towards the restoration of Parks and Recreation Facilities in the aftermath of Hurricane Juan.

Mayor Kelly said, "Our business community has shown its great strength and leadership in the aftermath of Hurricane Juan. The CIBC's very generous donation today to HRM really brings to the forefront the fact that business leaders such as CIBC believe in our community and are dedicated to its citizens and the rebuilding of our most important assets".

"This money will be allocated by the municipal government in the most appropriate way to help people in these communities rebuild following the damage inflicted by this storm," said Terry Gardiner, Vice-President of Branch and Small Business Banking for CIBC. "We know a lot of people have suffered some form of loss and CIBC is pleased to be able to make this contribution to the recovery efforts."

HRM is in the process of forming an Advisory Committee to make recommendations to Council regarding the rebuilding and renewal of municipal assets such as the Public Gardens, Point Pleasant Park, Shubie Park and other areas around the region that are important to the community.
