Hurricane Juan - Recovery Update - Leaf and Yard Waste Collection Resumes

(Friday, October 10, 2003 - For Immediate Release)

In a continued effort to assist HRM residents in the removal of leaf and yard waste, HRM Solid Waste Resources will resume collection of leaf and yard waste on Mon.Oct.13th.

Leaf and Yard Waste(collected same week as organics Green Cart)

Place beside Green Cart in orange or clear plastic bags or heavy paper bags-20 bag limit. 25kg(55lb) max./bag

Residents are reminded to use only orange or clear bags when setting out leaves for curbside collection. This assists collection staff in identifying which bags should be sent for composting. Black and green garbage bags should only contain refuse - which is unacceptable for composting. Leaf and yard waste is collected the same day as your organics green cart

Please ensure piles do not obstruct sidewalks, catch basins or fire hydrants. Debris piled on sidewalks hampers the efficiency of repair crews. Brush covering fire hydrants can hamper fire rescue crews in the event of an emergency.
