PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Still a Burning Ban in Place in all of Halifax Regional Municipality

(Friday, October 17, 2003) - All residents of HRM are reminded that the "No Burning Ban" is still in effect in all of HRM. We ask all residents to be patient. The main concern is that a major forest fire could result if the ban is lifted too soon. In addition, we do not want to over tax the fire Department's resources with a large number of calls, or impact the environment.

The Municipality is making efforts to pick up as much debris from Hurricane Juan as possible. HRM has a major clean-up campaign for the rural areas scheduled for this Saturday, October 18th. Please refer to HRM's website at www.halifax.ca/EMO/juancleanup for details on specific locations, or call 490-6360 for further information.

After the weekend clean-up, the burning ban will be re-assessed and a decision on whether to lift the ban will depend on how much debris is left.
