Special Celebration for Parks Improvements

(Tuesday, October 21/2003)-- A special "thank you" celebration will be held at Big Pine Hill Park in Dartmouth later this week. (It had previously been scheduled to be held on October 2nd, but was canceled in the aftermath of Hurricane Juan).

District Councillor Jim Smith said today the event is a celebration of improvements to park infrastructure ( play units ) throughout the District this year and a "thank you" to those who helped--- residents, volunteers, community organizations , HRM Parks, Recreation and Tourism, HRM staff and other government agencies.

Mayor Peter Kelly will be in attendance to extend thanks and congratulations, as well as help unveil seven large paintings that are being mounted on a wall at the park in appreciation of the community involvement in the projects.(He will also be asked to help cut and pass out the celebration cake.)

Councillor Smith said "It is important that we acknowledge the good things that are taking place in our neighborhoods, and the tremendous desire of residents to lend a helping hand to improve our living environment.:

Where: Big Pine Hill Park, adjacent to 100 Pinecrest Drive, or at the loop end of Joseph Young Street, off Highfield Park Drive, Dartmouth.
