Annual Christmas Tree Light-Up This Weekend

(Thursday, November 20/2003)-- This year's annual HRM Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony will take place on Saturday.

A musical performance by Canadian Idol finalist Gary Beals; a children's play, entitled "Christmas Tree of Hope"; fireworks; recognition of Hurricane Juan clean-up workers; and a visit by Santa Claus will highlight this year's event.

The 45-foot Colorado Blue Spruce tree erected in Grand Parade this year was donated by local developer Joe Metlege. The tree was cut on a property at the corner of Pepperell Street and Oxford Street, in Halifax, to make way for a new condominium development.

(Eds. Note: Ms. Doreen Moses, of Anderson Street, Dartmouth, donated a 30-foot Colorado Blue Spruce tree from her property to HRM to be decorated for the holiday season near Sullivan's Pond.)

When: Saturday, November 22, 2003
Time: 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Grand Parade, in front of City Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax
