Tomorrow to be Proclaimed "Gary Beals Day"

(Friday, November 21/2003)-- Mayor Peter Kelly, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, will officially proclaim tomorrow-- Saturday, November 22, 2003-- as "Gary Beals Day."

Mayor Kelly said Mr. Beals, a resident of Cherry Brook and a finalist in the Canadian Idol talent competition, portrays a positive image to young people and has brought national recognition not only to his home community, but to the entire Halifax Regional Municipality.

The Mayor said "Gary Beals wowed the judges and the nation with his performances during the Canadian Idol series with his musical talent and capabilities. We are pleased to call him "HRM's own Canadian Idol."

Gary Beals will be among the featured performers at tomorrow evening's official Christmas Tree Lighting festival at Grand Parade, City Hall. There will also be a children's play, entitled "Christmas Tree of Hope"; fireworks; recognition of Hurricane Juan clean-up workers; and a visit by Santa Claus.

The 45-foot Colorado Blue Spruce tree erected in Grand Parade will be officially lit up at approximately 7 p.m.
