HRM Begins Re-opening Parks and Green Spaces

(Friday, November 21, 2003)HRM's Parks and green spaces were devastated by Hurricane Juan. Although the recovery process is well underway, it will take time to renew our parks and urban forests and plan for their long-term, sustainable futures.

Approximately 1,200 parks, green spaces, play grounds sports fields, trails and urban forests have to be assessed and, as necessary, cleaned up so they can once again be used safely. This weekend, 50 of our sports fields and play grounds have been declared safe to re-open. Details on which parks have re-opened (list attached) are available on the web at www.halifax.ca (see icon on "Homepage") or by calling 490-4000.

In the weeks and months ahead we will be keeping the community informed of further re-opening through announcements on our web site and in the news media.
