Launch of Regional Planning Goals & Objectives

(Thursday, December 4, 2003)-- Mayor Peter Kelly, Chief Administrative Officer George McLellan and Joe O'Brien, Chair of HRM's Regional Planning Committee, will officially launch the Regional Planning Goals and Objectives to direct how HRM will develop over the next 25 years.

The goals and objectives are based on extensive research and residents' responses to the Directing the Action workbooks and recent focus groups. They will form the basis for decisions on where people will live in the Region (settlement patterns); transportation solutions; locations for economic expansion; environmental protection; and the uses of Halifax Harbour.

The launch begins a series of open houses that will give HRM residents a chance to review and comment on the goals and objectives before they're presented to Regional Council. A complete list of open houses is attached.
