Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency Service Urges Residents NOT to use
Open Flames to Thaw Water Lines

(Friday, January 16/2004)-- Residents are urged not to attempt to thaw frozen water pipes themselves, especially using open flames to do so.

The Fire and Emergency Service recommends that residents contact a qualified professional by checking the yellow pages for a reputable plumbing company that uses electrical thawing methods.

Experience has shown that many residents set fire to their houses each winter attempting to thaw frozen water pipes.
