Mayor Kelly to Dedicate St. Patrick's Square

(Monday, March 15/2004)-- Mayor Peter Kelly will attend a dedication ceremony on St. Patrick's Day this year to re-name a piece of municipal land in downtown Halifax to commemorate Irish immigrants who settled in this community.

At the request of the Charitable Irish Society of Halifax, Regional Council agreed earlier this year to rename a piece of municipal land on George Street, at Lower Water Street, as St. Patrick's Green.

A Celtic cross, designed by the son of an Irish immigrant from Galway, was installed at the site on December 6, 1999. It was a gift to HRM from the local Irish community.

When: Wednesday, March 17, 2004

Time: 8 a.m.
