HRM, Clean Nova Scotia Launch Joint Clean-Up Campaign
(Friday, April 16, 2004) - Clean Nova Scotia is teaming up with Halifax Regional Municipality and the Sackville Rivers Association this year to launch its annual "Great Nova Scotia Pick Me Up" litter clean-up campaign. Last year, over 25,000 volunteers worked together throughout the province to collect over 7,500 bags of mixed waste and recyclables.
This year's launch will be marked by a litter clean-up along the banks of the Sackville River. This event also marks the official launch of HRM's annual community clean-up campaign. HRM's campaign slogan this year is "Put Litter in its Place."
Volunteers for the clean-up can register on the day of the event at the upper level of the Bedford Superstore, beginning at 9 am on Saturday, April 24th. Residents of all ages are invited to participate. However, younger persons must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are reminded to dress for the weather. Rubber boots are recommended.
Community groups, schools or individuals may contact Clean Nova Scotia for a free 'Pick Me Up' Kit, which includes a guide book, posters, garbage and blue bags and a data sheet to keep track of what you find. Typically, clean-ups are done in the spring to take advantage of what melted snow reveals, but any time of year is a good time.
The Pick Me Up campaign is generously sponsored by Halifax Regional Municipality, Farnell Packaging Limited, Resource Recovery Fund Board and the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Labour.
