Curbside Solid Waste Collection
(Monday, April 26 /2004) - Spring cleaning or moving Soon?
A sure sign that spring is upon us is the sight of household refuse at the curb. Before placing your materials at the curb, please check your Organics Green Cart & Regular Refuse Collection Schedule for 2004/05 . Placing materials at the curb on the wrong day causes a nuisance, resulting in litter and an unsightly neighbourhood. At this time, HRM asks for residents' assistance in maintaining community standards in their neighbourhood by complying with municipal legislation regarding curbside solid waste collection.
HRM By-Law S-300 Part 2 requires property owners to maintain the area between the curb and their property line free from garbage, waste and debris at all times other than the designated time frame associated with scheduled collection days as defined in HRM By-Law S-600.
Under HRM By-Law S-600 Part 10, collectible waste may be placed curbside after 7:00 pm the evening before collection day and must be in place for collection prior to 7:00 am on collection day. Collection containers, organic green carts and any materials not collected must be removed from the curbside by 9:00 p.m. of the collection day.
Properties found to be in violation of HRM By-Law S-300 Part 2 will receive a notice advising that the garbage, waste or debris must be removed within 24 hours of notification. Failure to comply with the notice will result in the HRM removing the garbage and billing the property owner for the cost of the removal, which may form a lien on the property.
To register a curbside solid waste complaint, please call the HRM Corporate Call Center at 490-4000.
