Five Developers Bid on Former TexPark Garage Site.

(Wednesday, May 5, 2004) - Five developers responded with official bids to Halifax Regional Municipality's recent tender for the sale of the former TexPark garage site in the downtown core.

The property, located at 1591 Granville Street, is in the center of downtown Halifax, just two blocks from the Halifax waterfront. HRM staff issued the tender in March to advance the sale and timely development of the site. The tender closed on April 30th.

"Given the strong development activity on the peninsula, the most probable development is likely hotel and/or high density residential-- both with some commercial component," said Peter Stickings, HRM's Manager of Real Estate. ""This was our expectation at the beginning of the process and we are pleased with the response at this stage."

Bids were received from the following five developers:

Giffels Management Limited (Toronto)

Southwest Properties Limited

Stephen D. Ling, on behalf of United Gulf Developments Limited

Templeton Lawen Group

Universal Property Management Limited

The full terms and conditions of the offers will remain confidential until the matter has been presented to Halifax Regional Council. Staff is targeting the tabling of the award for both the sale and subsequent demolition of the old parking structure by the end of May.
