Burnside Expanding, Wright Avenue Being Extended
(Wednesday, May 12/2004)- Halifax Regional Council awarded a tender to Dexter Construction for the build out of Phase 11-2 Burnside Park. The project, to be completed this fall, includes the extension of Wright Avenue through to Burnside Drive.
The scope of work includes: the construction of a new road to extend the existing Wright Avenue to Burnside Drive; creation of a four-way, signalized intersection at Burnside Drive; and development of Burnside Phase 11-2. This phase includes grading, servicing and paving of approximately one kilometre of new streets and the addition of 42 acres (nine lots) to the Burnside Park inventory. The long-term plan will see Wright Avenue eventually extended to connect with Highway 118.
The project also includes a sewage pumping station, underground power, a new communications infrastructure, natural gas servicing, roadway lighting, signage, bike lanes, parkland trails and landscaping.
"This is the single largest business park capital project to date for HRM. It will result in significant improvements to traffic flow in and out of Burnside, while at the same time growing its commercial development success" said Peter Stickings, Manager, Real Estate, Real Property and Asset Management.
Burnside Park is the largest business park in Atlantic Canada, providing a major centre of employment and contributing significantly to the economy of the Halifax Regional Municipality.
