Councillor Welcomes New Artificial Field Funding
(Thursday, May 20/2004)-- Councillor Brian Warshick today welcomed the long-awaited announcement that federal-provincial funding has been approved for a new artificial outdoor soccer facility in Dartmouth.
It was announced under the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Program today that both governments would be contributing a total of $1.6 million towards the $3.5 million facility. HRM already has in place the remaining $1.9 million, which has been approved in portions each year over the past three budget years.
Councillor Warshick "This has been talked for more than three years and it has been tops on my priority list to see that the eastern region of HRM gets the much-needed facility."
He said the project will consist of two separate, regulation-sized fields which can accommodate not only soccer play, but football, rugby and lacrosse. It will include lighting, washroom facilities and parking. The selected site is located in Burnside, near Spectacle Lake
Target date for completion is late this fall.
