(Friday, May 21, 2004)-- The upper parking lot of Point Pleasant Park (Tower Road entrance) will be closed to the public on June 4, the official re-opening of the south end Halifax park.
However, the media will have access to the parking lot for the re-opening event. The parking lot will re-open again to the public on Saturday, June 5 and the hours of the park will be from 6 a.m. to 12 midnight daily.
Point Pleasant will once again be open to the public on June 4th, following many months of clean-up work and restoration in the wake of Hurricane Juan. The ceremony will take place in the upper parking lot that morning.
HRM anticipates the re-opening weekend will attract a great many visitors to the park. As we learned from the two special openings we held last fall and in early spring, the news media also has a great interest in Point Pleasant Park. In recognition of this, we would like to coordinate and support, wherever possible, any special requests you may have in regard to covering the re-opening event.
If you have any special requests, please contact me at 490-6531. We will try to coordinate and accommodate all requests.
HRM appreciates the ongoing interest in Point Pleasant and our other parks by the media. We thank you for your efforts. Your assistance has better enabled us to keep the public informed about the extent of the damage due to the hurricane and the progress of the clean up.
We look forward to working with you as we re-open.
