HRM to Commemorate Joseph Howe's Birthday

(Thursday, May 27/2004)-- Mayor Peter Kelly will participate in a brief ceremony on Tuesday, June 1st, to mark the birthday of former Premier and Nova Scotian statesman Joseph Howe.

The ceremony, to be held at Howe's grave site in Camp Hill Cemetery, is part of the celebration Howe's 200th birthday this year.

Mayor Kelly, other civic representatives and Friends of the Joseph Howe Initiative will be joined at the ceremony by some descendants of Joe Howe, including his great-great-grandson Mr. Jim Howe Murchy, of Dartmouth.

Flowers will be placed on the grave, which Halifax Regional Municipality has been restoring in honour of Joseph Howe's 200th Birthday Year.

HRM is also installing markers to guide visitors to the grave site, which can be found by entering Camp Hill Cemetery from the Summer Street entrance.
