Lieutenant-Governor to Attend Park Re-Opening
(Tuesday, June 1/2004)--- Lieutenant-Governor Myra Freeman, Mayor Peter Kelly and Councillor Sue Uteck will be among the dignitaries attending the official re-opening of Point Pleasant Park on Friday.
Mayor Kelly, on behalf of Halifax Regional Council, extended the invitation to the Lieutenant-Governor as the Queen's representative in Nova Scotia. The Point Pleasant Park land is owned by the Crown, but Halifax was granted a 999-year-lease on the property, beginning in 1866.
Major donors to the Point Pleasant Park Foundation will be officially recognized and thanked at the ceremony, and special thanks will be extended to staff members of Point Pleasant Park who have been working tirelessly to help clean-up the park since it was extensively damaged last fall by Hurricane Juan.

Where: Upper Parking Lot (south end of Tower Road)
NOTE: Although the Upper Lot will be closed to the public until June 5, there will be parking for the media in the lot for the opening ceremony on June 4.
