HRM to Observe Taxi and Limousine Appreciation Day
(Monday, June 7/2004)-- Halifax Regional Municipality will be celebrating Taxi and Limousine Appreciation Day on Wednesday.
Councillor Stephen Adams, Chair of the Taxi and Limousine Committee, said June 9 is a day to recognize, reaffirm the value and celebrate the contributions of this service industry to the HRM community.
"It has been many years now, and well before the more recent period of amalgamation of the Halifax Regional Municipality, since a similar recognition event took place." the Councillor said "Therefore, the Taxi and Limousine Committee thought it would be suitable and important to focus and celebrate this industry and the valuable service it provides."
Councillor Adams said the taxi and limousine industry continues to demonstrate clear service goals and distinct purposes. Quality service, industry standards and safety remain paramount priorities and continue to be an ongoing focus of the Taxi and Limousine Committee, and all involved within the industry.
He said " We appreciate the fine work, generosity and service delivery this industry provides, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in all sorts of Maritime weather. Their record of service delivery success speaks for itself."
As part of the celebrations, the Hotel Standards Committee, in conjunction with the Hotel Association of Nova Scotia, will be sponsoring a 'Meet and Greet' reception for all taxi and limousine drivers, representatives from the hotel industry and the Halifax Regional Municipality. The event, to be held in the Welcome Pavilion of Pier 21 National Historic Site, 1055 Marginal Road, Halifax, between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on June 9, will also provide an opportunity for HRM to recognize some of the retired taxi and limousine Drivers who provided long service to the industry.
