Community Organizes Send-Off for Olympian Paddlers
(Friday, July 23/04)-- Residents of Lake Echo and the Orenda Canoe Club are organizing a "Good Luck" send-off for local athlete Steve Giles (canoe/kayak) and other Olympian paddlers this weekend.
Councillor David Hendsbee will serve as master of ceremonies for the event, which will be held on Sunday, July 25, at 12:30 p.m., at the Lake Echo Recreation Centre,3168 #7 Highway, Lake Echo.
If the weather is inclement, the event will be held indoor at the same location.
The Orenda Canoe Club is also hosting the Metro Atom Regatta this weekend, so young paddlers will have an opportunity to see and meet their Olympian role models.
