COMMUNITIES IN BLOOM NATIONAL JUDGE ... ON A BICYCLE
(Thursday, August 5/04)-- Bob Lewis, Director for Urban Parks & Green spaces for the National Capital Commission in Ottawa, has been associated with Communities in Bloom (CIB) for over eight years.
This year, Bob has decided to add a different flavour to his judging tour by travelling by bicycle from Ottawa to Halifax for CIB evaluations on August 13.
Bob left his hometown of Ottawa on August 1 and will be in Fredericton on August 7 and Saint John on August 8. He will then take the 9 a.m ferry from Saint John to Digby on August 9 and arrive in Halifax on August 10.
Communities In Bloom, Canada's program for the improvement of quality of life through beautification, community involvement, environmental awareness, and heritage conservation, is proud to having been involving municipalities since 1995.
Qualified CIB judges visit and evaluate each entrant on its overall tidiness, urban forestry, landscaped areas, floral displays, turf and groundcover areas, environmental effort, heritage preservation and community involvement. The judges value a high level of co-operative effort by individuals, businesses, organizations, institutions and the municipal government. Detailed reports, and access to an information exchange network with other participants creates a dynamic and rewarding process for a community's continuing improvement.
Annual "Bloom Ratings", from 2 to 5 Blooms, and the 5 -Bloom winners in each population category will be announced at the National Awards Ceremony, to be hosted this year by the City of Charlottetown, on September 18.
