Harbour, Park Provide Backdrop for GM
Canada's Cross-Canada Trek
(Friday, August 13/04)- Mayor Peter Kelly will participate Monday in the official launch of General Motors Canada's "Mission Green" trek, which is a cross-country tour that salutes 85 local environmental initiatives that are creating a cleaner, healthier environment for all Canadians
Point Pleasant Park and Halifax Harbour will serve as the environmental backdrop for the launch. The park is undergoing a multi-million dollar restoration after it was severely damaged by Hurricane Juan last year; the $310 million Harbour Solutions Project is underway and will result in the clean-up of the polluted harbour.
Halifax resident, Garry Sowerby, one of Canada's best-known adventure travellers and a world record-setter, will lead the journey for GM as he searches out 85 local environmental initiatives across Canada. Garry hits the road in GM's advanced technology vehicles, which will be on display.
