Silo Unloading Continuing Over the Weekend
(Friday, September 10/04)-- Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Services will remain on the scene over the weekend, as unloading of wood pellets from silos at the grain elevators in south end Halifax continues.
Fire officials are working with the owners, the Halifax Port Authority, and the operator, Halifax Grain Elevator Limited, on the removal of a total of 9,600 tonnes of wood pellets to prevent any potential fire hazard. The pellets were stored in the silos, awaiting shipment overseas.
Fire and Emergency crews will be on-hand at the grain elevators until the removal operation is complete. The operation has been ongoing all week.
Residents in the surrounding neighbourhoods may detect an odour during the unloading of the products into trucks.
Fire and Emergency officials extend their thanks to area residents for their continuing patience throughout this operation by the Halifax Port Authority and Halifax Grain Elevators Limited.
