News Release
Wright Avenue Extension Across Burnside Drive
(Thursday, November 18/2004)-
The official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new extension of Wright
Avenue across Burnside Drive in Dartmouth took place at 3:00 pm
today. Mayor Peter Kelly, Councillor Jim Smith, representatives
from HRM, CBCL, Dexter Construction, and Burnside Business Association
were in attendance for the ceremony. The new streets are expected
to be opened to traffic next week. Construction on the multi-million
dollar project began in May 2004, and will directly benefit Burnside
Park residents and customers, serving as another critical link in
the park’s transportation infrastructure.
The scope of work included: the construction of a new road to extend
the existing Wright Avenue to Burnside Drive; creation of a four-way,
signalized intersection at Burnside Drive; and development of Burnside
Phase 11-2. This phase includes grading, servicing and paving of
approximately one kilometre of new streets and the addition of 42
acres (nine lots) to the Burnside Park inventory. The long-term
plan will see Wright Avenue eventually extended to connect with
Highway 118.
Features of Phase 11-2 include underground power, a new communications
infrastructure, natural gas servicing, roadway lighting, signage,
bike lanes, parkland trails extending around Spectacle Lake and
landscaped buffers.
“At $6.4M, this expansion project represents the single largest
business park capital project to date for HRM. While adding to the
available lots for sale and development, this development will also
serve to provide another major traffic route within Burnside Park.”
said Michael Wile, Coordinator, Business Parks Sales & Development,
Real Property and Asset Management.
Burnside Park is the largest business park in Atlantic Canada, providing
a major centre of employment and contributing significantly to the
economy of the Halifax Regional Municipality.
