New HRM Calendar to Reduce Paper-Use, Paper-Flow to Residents
(Thursday, December 9/04)--
It’s that time of year again--- when thoughts of HRM residents
turn to buying or receiving a new calendar for the coming year.
Well this year, HRM’s 150,000 households and businesses will
soon be receiving the municipality’s first annual corporate
calender, featuring information about its many services, events
and environmental initiatives, such as the annual waste collection
schedule, the householder’s guide to waste management and
other helpful tips.
The 2005 calendar was produced in-house, with Environmental Management
Services and Corporate Communications taking the lead on the project.
Funding for the project was achieved by using existing budgeted
amounts from a number of HRM business units. No new money was used
to enable this project. The business units represented drew on approved
funding they would have normally used to provide information to
the public throughout the year.
The calendar consolidates a number of public information items that
would have to be prepared and distributed to residents by HRM business
units at various times throughout the year. In this way, it should
reduce the amount of printed materials citizens receive from the
municipality and therefore, reduce the amount of paper HRM uses.
The Corporate Calendar, which is printed on paper with 30 per cent
recycled content with environmentally safe vegetable inks, will
be distributed to Chronicle Herald newspaper subscribers in their
Saturday, December 18th newspaper.
For non-subscribers, in the Sunday, December 19th and Monday, December
20th "Out and About" flyer delivery.
For residents and businesses who do not receive a copy of the calendar
by December 20th, they can pick one up at any HRM library, recreation
centre or Customer Service Centre.
