HRM, Sheet Harbour Chamber Partner on Centre
(Wednesday, September
29/04)-- Halifax Regional Municipality and the Sheet Harbour and
Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering to ensure the continued
operation of the MacPhee House Visitor Information Centre and Museum
in the Eastern Shore community.
Mayor Peter Kelly and Deputy Mayor Stephen Streatch will be among
those attending an official signing ceremony in Sheet Harbour this
weekend to mark the transfer of lands.
HRM has purchased the land surrounding MacPhee House from the Province
of Nova Scotia
and the Chamber of Commerce has agreed to transfer the property
on which the house is located to the municipality. Visitor Information
Centre has been successfully supported by HRM Visitor Services for
the past two years.
Mayor Kelly said “This transfer will ensure the sustainable
support necessary to maintain and further develop the MacPhee House
Visitor Information Centre and Museum, as well as the surrounding
parkland.”
Day-to-day operations of the Visitor Information Centre and Museum
will continue to be managed by the Chamber of Commerce. Volunteers
staff the facility.
Deputy Mayor Streatch said “ I want to commend the Executive
Committee and all members of the Sheet Harbour and Area Chamber
of Commerce for the tremendous time and effort they have put into
this project. I am confident the transfer of ownership will serve
to enhance this partnership between HRM Visitor Services and the
Chamber.”
Members of the Sheet Harbour community are invited to attend the
transfer of ownership ceremony.
