HRM Employees to Make Over Community Centre
(Friday, October 22/04)--
Halifax Regional Municipality employees will participate in the
first HRM United Way “Complete Make Over” next week.
The make over project, in support of HRM’s Metro United Way
campaign, will be held at the Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre next Monday
and Tuesday (October 25 & 26) from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The centre
is located 5540 Russell Street, in the north end of Halifax.
The Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre is a not-for-profit agency that
provides over 120,000 hours of programmed activities for children,
youth, and seniors each year. It also serves 20,000 hot meals and
distributes over 75,000 kg of food yearly to the local community
through St. Mark’s Food Bank.
The Complete Make Over is an activity that HRM employees have been
planning and looking forward to for the last several months. It
is an excellent example of how corporations can make a difference
in their community through sponsorship and front-line volunteer
participation.
Through the volunteer contribution of HRM employees, the Ward 5
Neighbourhood Centre will be receiving new ceiling tiles, countertops,
floors restored and a fresh coat of paint both inside and out.
The children ’s playground will receive new sods, new gravel
and a major clean-up. In addition, a new awning will be installed
over the front entrance of the building. The staff and users of
the Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre are excited about what is estimated
to be over $15,000 in renovations to the facility.
If you would like to learn more about this HRM United Way project,
please contact either Jim Donovan at 476-8211, or Terry Gallagher
at 476-4067.
The media is invited to visit the Ward 5 Neighbourhood Centre on
Tuesday, October 26 from 10:00-10:30 am when the HRM United Way
Steering Committee will be visiting HRM employees at Ward 5.
